Toddler Music – Keep them in a Pleasant Mood

It took nearly twenty centuries for researchers to prove that babies in the womb can listen to music and recognize it. For centuries, mothers have been singing music to babies in the form of lullabies to make them sleep. Now, it is established that music helps to enhance the growth and development of the fetus in the mother’s womb.

Music relieves the stress and strain and helps for a deeper bonding between the parent and the child. In the case of toddlers, music plays a very prominent role in shaping them and can be started as early as the age of three. There are many benefits of exposing toddlers to music.

Music acts as a positive development stimulus for growing children. It also helps to enhance their self confidence. In fact, toddlers can respond to music more than words and pictures. In addition, older toddlers are known to increase their brain power when they take on music lessons. A higher concentration and better body control are other benefits of toddlers listening to music. Their social interactions will be enhanced and also, it would give them a higher sense of self esteem.

Scientifically, music promotes the production of endomorphin which is responsible for the production of good hormones. Hence, there would be a better child- parent bonding, as a lot of stress is relieved while listening to music. Toddlers when exposed to various kinds of music like baby songs, classic music and so on, develop what is known as rhythm skills, which is the ability to understand rhythm. This rhythmic skill would be instrumental in performing better, academically, as well as in other fields.

When a parent plays some music and dances with the toddler, it certainly helps for a better bonding between them. Classical music is better played in the morning for longer hours. It is better to avoid grunge and hard metal music. The toddler can also be advised to try on the piano because the toddler need not master any special fingering.

Toddlers have a special liking for songs that are a little narrative. Such songs can be chosen for the toddlers. In short, music has to be made an integral part of the toddler’s life. The parent should not thrust their likings for the kind of music on the toddler and the there is a plenty of variety of great music that the toddler can be exposed to.

The difference between the children who grow up with the music and those who do not, is a clear testimony to the strong effect music has on the toddler. Making the toddler listen to good music is one of the duties of the parent and is a good way of showing their unconditional love for the toddler.
