Nappies for Toddlers
There are many types of baby nappies that are made of different materials like simple cloth, hemp, flannelette, terry cotton and some types of nappies that require no folding, of which, cloth nappies are the best and friendly to the environment.
It is a shocking revelation than disposable nappies take about five hundred years to decompose and take about three times the energy to produce than cloth nappy. Nappies made of hemp are neat and slim and are comfortable and long wearing. As hemp is extremely absorbent, nappies last longer and are an excellent choice for overnight use, which is the time babies tend to wet heavily. Hemp is cultivated free from chemicals and so, is good on the skin of the babies and is resistant to diseases.
Nappies made from flannelette are slimmer fitting and so dry off quickly and are well suited for a new born baby but does not suit a toddler. Hence for the first few months, nappies made of flannelette can be used and then can switch over to a more absorbent nappy. Fitted nappies look like hour glass when folded out and are similar to disposable nappies. When fitted, they are roughly in the shape of an under pant and have extra layers of cloth into the areas that require more absorbency. Usually, fitted nappies have elastic at the back and waist to provide protection to extra leakage.
Instead of disposable nappies, a good quality shaped nappy can be used that need no folding. A PUL cover can be used for nappies that are made of cloth with a lamination cover inside and look like water proofing. It is both water resistant and has a breathe ability. It is also long lasting when proper care is taken and can be washed with nappies quite easily. They can be used with day time nappies and are effective overnight too.
Cloths nappies are easy to use and are more eco friendly than disposable nappies. But the greatest advantage of cloth nappies is that they are gentle on the skin of the baby and are very comfortable. Utmost care should be given to the baby’s nappy because it is the closest thing to the baby’s skin all during the day and night.
To avoid baby rash, it is a good idea to use organic baby nappies because the baby rashes are the main concern for most of the parents which cause discomfort to the child and the mother tries her best to avoid that situation. Organic baby nappies can be reused repeatedly even for the second child.
Another great benefit of organic nappies is that they are free from chemicals and chemicals have to be certainly avoided as far as the baby’s tender skin is concerned. Although disposable nappies are very easy to use and throw, while taking the baby’s safety and comfort in mind, organic nappies or cloth nappies are the best.
