Toddlers that are one year old and less than twenty pounds are safer in a rear facing car seat. It is advisable to use the toddler car seat until the child is over forty pounds and be placed in a belt positioning booster seat and it should be used until the child is eight years old. The harness must be used until the toddler is at least eighty pounds of weight.

The lap portion of the car seat should lie across the toddler’s hip and not across their belly. The shoulder part should be across their shoulder and not rubbing their neck. Generally, children that are twelve years or younger would be safer to stay in the back of the car, if possible.

The angle of the toddler car seats is required to be at a 45 degree angle level and it should not be forgotten that the rear facing infant seat should not be in front of an airbag.
